India's poverty and underdevelopment won't be solved by clinging to the past. Rapid industrialization, urbanization, and global integration have lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty and created opportunities that traditional ways of life simply cannot provide. We need to embrace modernity, attract investment, and build competitive industries—even if that means some traditional communities and practices change in the process. Sentiment won't feed families or provide quality healthcare and education.
This false choice has already cost us enormously. Unchecked growth in the name of "development" has destroyed ecosystems, displaced tribal communities, eroded local knowledge systems, and created hollow cities where people have money but no belonging. India's real strength is in its diversity, its philosophies, and its sustainable ways of living that the West is only now rediscovering. We can grow economically without annihilating what makes us Indian—but once cultures are lost, no amount of GDP brings them back.
