The Electoral College is fundamentally undemocratic โ it allows presidents to win despite losing the popular vote by millions, which has happened twice in the last two decades. A system where each person's vote counts equally and the candidate with the most votes wins is the only fair way to run a national election. Swing states already decide everything while safe states are ignored; abolishing the Electoral College would make every vote matter equally regardless of zip code.
The Electoral College ensures that presidents have to build geographically diverse coalitions and prevents a handful of high-population urban centers from dominating national politics. It protects the interests of less populated states and rural America, which otherwise would be completely overlooked. The Founders designed it intentionally to balance competing regional interests โ abandoning it would fundamentally restructure our federal system and empower coastal elites at the expense of Middle America.
