India will never reach developed-nation status unless we stop treating agriculture as a sacred cow and accelerate manufacturing and tech sectors. We're stuck as a low-wage service and commodity exporter because we keep subsidizing small farms that barely feed families—those resources should fuel factories, cities, and the global economy. Farmers can retrain; a nation cannot develop by farming forever.
Seventy percent of rural India depends on farming, and you cannot industrialize away 900 million people without destroying social stability and our food security. Other countries developed with agricultural surplus first—we already tried forced urbanization and it created our slums. Sustainable growth means investing in farm productivity, cold chains, and rural infrastructure so farmers actually earn, not abandoning them to chase GDP growth theater.
