Wealthy industrialized nations built their prosperity on fossil fuels and created the vast majority of historical carbon emissions—they're directly responsible for the climate crisis that's displacing millions. It's fundamentally unjust to profit from the pollution causing the problem and then refuse to help those suffering the consequences. Legal obligations would create accountability and distribute responsibility fairly instead of letting vulnerable nations bear the entire burden.
Every nation has the sovereign right to control its own borders and decide who enters based on its capacity and interests—that's a foundational principle of statehood. Imposing legal obligations on immigration would be unenforceable globally and ignores that wealthy nations already take in refugees and aid developing countries. The real solution is climate mitigation and adaptation funding, not forced mass migration that creates social pressure domestically.
