Every other developed nation has figured this out—Americans shouldn't have to go bankrupt from medical bills or skip necessary treatment because of cost. A government-funded system would eliminate insurance company middlemen, reduce administrative waste, and guarantee coverage for everyone. We already spend nearly twice what other countries spend on healthcare; a single-payer system would actually save money while covering more people.
The US has the world's best medical innovation and treatment options precisely because of our competitive private system—put government in charge and you'll get longer wait times, rationed care, and a brain drain of top doctors like we see in Canada and the UK. Americans who like their current coverage would lose it, taxes would skyrocket, and you can't just pretend a massive government overhaul won't create chaos. The real solution is making the existing system more transparent and competitive, not handing it to Washington.
