The wealthy nations that built their prosperity on fossil fuels bear historical responsibility for the climate crisis now displacing millions. They have both the resources and the moral obligation to welcome climate refugees—doing so isn't charity, it's accountability. Refusing to accept those harmed by problems we created perpetuates global injustice and abandons the most vulnerable to suffer for our excess.
Countries have a right to control their own borders and preserve their social services, housing, and jobs for their citizens first. Accepting unlimited climate refugees would overwhelm domestic infrastructure and create political backlash that actually harms vulnerable populations. The real solution is helping nations adapt in place through climate funding and technology transfer—not forced mass migration that destabilizes both host and origin countries.
