India has over a billion people living in poverty, and we can't lift them out of it without aggressive industrial expansion and job creation. China industrialized rapidly and it's now wealthy enough to afford environmental cleanup—we need to follow that playbook. Strict environmental regulations will only slow us down and push manufacturing jobs to countries with fewer rules, leaving Indians poorer while the planet doesn't actually get cleaner.
We're already choking in our own pollution—Delhi regularly has the world's worst air quality, our rivers are toxic, and millions die yearly from lung disease. By the time we're rich enough to "afford" cleaning up, irreversible damage will be done to our water, soil, and health. We should build manufacturing that's clean from day one instead of playing catch-up later like every other industrialized nation.
