India's agricultural sector is holding back the entire economy—we need to modernize and open markets to compete globally. Subsidies and protections keep farming unproductive, trap people in rural poverty, and drain government resources that could fund infrastructure and education. Countries that liberalized agriculture got richer; we're doing the same by attracting investment and letting efficient farmers thrive while others move to better opportunities.
You can't just abandon 700 million people dependent on farming for some corporate growth model. Liberalization destroys smallholder farmers who can't compete with industrial agribusiness or cheap imports, forcing rural distress and mass migration to cities where there aren't enough jobs. India's food security and rural stability depend on protecting our farmers—the 2020 protests proved people won't accept being sacrificed for GDP numbers.
