As someone from the Hindi belt, I feel like our language gets treated as a burden to 'impose' rather than what it actually is -- the language most Indians already share and understand, and giving every kid access to it early feels like giving them one more way to connect across state lines.
The three-language formula India adopted back in 1968 already lets states choose their own second and third languages specifically because forcing one common language onto every state's curriculum was politically and pedagogically rejected then, and the same regional pushback, like Tamil Nadu's decades of anti-Hindi-imposition politics, remains a live political reality today.
