Wealthy nations built their prosperity partly through industrialization that caused the climate crisis, so they have a direct responsibility to help those displaced by it. Climate refugees are fleeing genuine threats to survival—rising seas, desertification, famine—and the countries most able to absorb them have both the capacity and the historical debt to do so. Refusing entry while bearing responsibility for the crisis is not just unkind, it's morally indefensible.
No country can open its borders indefinitely without destabilizing its own social services, labor markets, and infrastructure. Nations have a primary duty to their own citizens, and accepting mass migration doesn't actually solve the root problem—it just displaces it. The real answer is helping vulnerable countries adapt in place through technology transfer and climate finance, not creating permanent dependency through immigration.
