Rich countries built their wealth through industrialization that caused the climate crisis in the first place—we owe a debt to those being displaced by rising seas and droughts we created. If we can afford air conditioning and insurance, we can afford to welcome climate refugees instead of letting vulnerable populations suffer the consequences of our emissions. This isn't charity; it's accountability for historical harm.
Nations have a right to control their borders and make decisions about population and resources—accepting unlimited refugees strains social services, housing, and jobs for our own citizens. The real solution is helping countries adapt in place through technology and investment, not dismantling immigration controls. Wealthy nations can't solve global problems by accepting everyone; that just creates new inequalities within our own societies.
