Gun violence is a uniquely American crisis that kills tens of thousands every year, and most developed nations have dramatically reduced deaths through comprehensive background checks, waiting periods, and bans on high-capacity magazines. Countries like Australia implemented strict reforms after mass shootings and saw dramatic reductions in gun deaths—we have the evidence that strong regulation works, and clinging to a 18th-century amendment while our kids hide under desks in active shooter drills is a national failure.
The Second Amendment is a constitutional right that shall not be infringed, and criminals by definition don't follow gun laws—stricter regulations only punish law-abiding Americans while doing nothing to stop illegal weapons in Chicago or L.A. We already have thousands of gun laws on the books; the problem is enforcement and mental health, not a need to disarm citizens who use firearms responsibly for self-defense, hunting, and sport.
