A uniform civil code is essential for true equality before the law—right now Muslim women suffer under regressive personal laws while Hindu women have better protections, which is fundamentally unjust. UCC would end arbitrary practices like instant triple talaq and polygamy, creating one standard of citizenship that respects individual rights over religious doctrine. If we claim to be a modern nation, we can't let religion dictate whether women get equal inheritance or custody rights.
Forcing UCC is cultural imperialism that treats Hindu majority norms as "universal" and ignores India's constitutional promise to minorities that they can preserve their personal laws. Religious communities have the right to self-governance in personal matters—marriage, inheritance, succession—as part of freedom of religion guaranteed by our Constitution. A secular state shouldn't impose one legal framework; it should protect minority rights and let communities resolve these issues internally through reform movements.
