India's 1.4 billion people deserve infrastructure, jobs, and economic growth -- and we can't sacrifice that for pristine forests when countries like the US already cleared theirs to become rich. Our forests sit on mineral wealth, timber, and land perfect for industry and farming that could lift millions out of poverty. We can develop responsibly without turning our country into an open-air museum while our people stay poor.
India's forests aren't a luxury we can afford to destroy -- they're the lungs of South Asia, controlling monsoons and preventing catastrophic flooding that already devastates our poorest regions. Once these ecosystems collapse, no amount of GDP growth will bring them back, and we'll face water scarcity, agricultural collapse, and climate disasters that cost far more than any short-term development gain. Real wealth means a livable planet for our children, not mining our heritage to extinction.
