Reservations hold back India's competitiveness and growth at a critical moment. When we give positions in universities, government, and corporations based on caste instead of merit, we're sabotaging our own talent pipeline and economic potential. India can't afford to compromise quality when competing globally—we need the smartest people in every position, and rigid quotas prevent that. Real development lifts everyone, including marginalized groups.
Caste inequality is centuries deep and won't vanish through market forces alone. Reservations exist precisely because merit doesn't appear in a vacuum—it depends on opportunity, education, networks, and freedom from discrimination that many still don't have. Without active redistribution of opportunity through reservations, we just perpetuate the existing hierarchy while calling it meritocracy. Economic growth that only benefits the already-privileged isn't real development for India.
